Q: When should I paint my house?
A:
Typically, on the exterior of the home if you touch the wood or metal and a powdery residue
is on your finger, it's time to paint the house.If you look at the seams and they have separated,it's time to paint the house.If you look at the siding or wood or gutters and you see little black or green spots it's time to paint the house.Most of the higher quality paints have little to no fading (Sherwin-Williams is one that we use).Remember, if you use a high quality paint, it protects the wood and the metal and keeps you from having to pay people to replace it in the the long run. You get what you pay for!!
Q: Should I power wash my house on an annual basis?
A:
YES, we recommend power washing a home at least every year to two years.It keeps the contaminants from deteriorating your paint.Also remember, when the paint goes the wood is next!!
Q: How often should I paint my house?
A:
That depends on a number of factors, 1. What kind of paint did the last contractor use? 2.Was the house prepped correctly? ie; caulked,primed,power washed, etc.A typical good paint job should last in our opinion between 7 and 12 years respectively.
Q: Which is better paint, oil or latex?
A:
It really depends on the application.On the interior we recommend latex on the walls and ceilings, oil on the wood trim and Laquer on the cabinetry. On the exterior, we recommend a mix of latex and oil, the oil being, garage doors, gutters and downspouts. Latex being used on the wood, siding, etc.
Q: What is the typical cost for painting the interior and the exterior of my house?
A:
As you probably already know every home is different, but we'll give you some numbers to work with.
1.Typical 1 story exterior $950.00 (includes materials)
2.Typical 2 story exterior $1350.00 " "
3.Interior paint per room $125.00 to $175.00 depending on the amount of wall prep,height of ceilings, etc.
These numbers are average of course, but we have done hundreds of homes and every one is different.
