A fresh finish for an existing space.

Landmark Property Services offers cabinet painting as part of our work on existing Fort Worth homes. The starting point is the material, condition and finish already on your cabinets.

Kitchen cabinets

Discuss doors, drawer fronts, face frames, exposed cabinet ends and islands. Confirm which surfaces are included, especially cabinet interiors, shelves and the backs of doors.

Bathroom vanities

Review the existing finish, everyday moisture exposure and signs of damage. Leaks, swollen material or loose surfaces need attention before a new coating is considered.

Planning changes beyond the cabinets? Coordinate the scope with interior painting or remodeling and repairs so walls, trim and other finishes work together.

Preparation comes before the color.

Cabinet surfaces vary. During the estimate, discuss the preparation appropriate to the material and the existing coating, rather than assuming every cabinet needs the same process.

  • Condition and adhesion of the existing finish, including peeling or worn areas
  • Cleaning to address grease and residue before coating
  • Sanding or other surface preparation and a compatible primer where appropriate
  • Agreed repairs to dents, chips, loose joints or damaged areas
  • Protection for countertops, floors, appliances and nearby surfaces
  • Handling of doors, drawers and hardware, plus cleanup and reinstallation responsibilities

Ask how the coating will be applied, where each part of the work will take place and what access is needed. Confirm the agreed steps in writing.

Color, sheen and the finish you want.

Choose a cabinet color with your countertops, backsplash, flooring and lighting in mind. Compare samples in the room before making the final selection.

A painted finish

An opaque painted finish changes the color while keeping the existing cabinet layout. Ask about appropriate coating and sheen options, cleanability and how the wood grain or existing texture may show.

Refinishing considerations

If you prefer a stained or clear finish that shows the wood, discuss whether the material and previous coating make that practical. Stripping, stain changes and repairs need a separate review of the scope.

Confirm the specific product, surface preparation, expected appearance and care instructions. Dry-to-touch time and readiness for normal use are different, so ask about both before planning around the work.

Painting or replacing your cabinets?

Painting may be worth considering when the cabinet boxes and doors are sound and the layout still works for you.

Replacement or more extensive repairs may make more sense when cabinets are badly damaged, the material is failing, or you need a different layout or storage arrangement. A new coating does not correct structural problems or an active moisture source.

Compare written scopes for the options that fit your goals. Include related countertop, hardware and repair work so you can weigh the full project, rather than relying on a promised percentage saving.

What affects cabinet painting cost?

Your estimate depends on what is being refinished and the preparation required. A cabinet count alone does not describe the whole job.

  • Number and size of doors, drawer fronts, frames and exposed ends
  • Cabinet material, door profile, existing coating and condition
  • Cleaning, preparation, priming and repairs needed
  • Selected coating, color changes and desired finish
  • Whether interiors, shelves, islands or additional built-ins are included
  • Hardware changes, access, protection and any related room repairs

For a useful starting conversation, share your city, photos of the full room and worn areas, approximate door and drawer counts, and the result you want. Request a free estimate to review your specific project.

Cabinet painting questions

A few details to work through before scheduling.

Can my existing cabinets be painted?

That depends on the cabinet material, condition and existing finish. Solid wood, veneer, laminate and factory-coated surfaces can have different preparation and compatibility requirements. Have the surfaces assessed before deciding on a coating.

Can you paint over stained cabinets?

A painted finish may be an option, but the existing coating, adhesion and potential stain bleed need to be evaluated. Discuss the cleaning, preparation and primer appropriate to the specific cabinets.

Will wood grain still show through the paint?

It may. Paint changes color but does not automatically produce a completely smooth surface on open-grain wood. If a smoother appearance is important, discuss what is feasible and any additional preparation before accepting the estimate.

Are cabinet interiors and new hardware included?

Only the agreed scope determines what is included. Specify interiors, shelves, door backs and hardware changes during the estimate so the written proposal is clear.

How long will the work take, and can I use my kitchen?

Timing and room access depend on preparation, the coating system, drying and curing requirements, and the amount of work. Ask about the expected sequence, food-storage and access arrangements, and when surfaces can return to normal use.
